Henry Saint Clair Fredericks performs under the stage name Taj Mahal. He is a self-taught singer, songwriter and film composer who plays the guitar, piano, banjo and harmonica, to name but a few. He often incorporates elements of world music into his works and has done much to reshape the definition and scope of blues music over the course of his career by fusing it with nontraditional forms, including sounds from the Caribbean, Africa and the South Pacific. His impressive body of work includes three Grammy Awards and ten nominations in addition to Blues Music Awards and the American Music Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014.
Taj Mahal is on record as saying he prefers outdoor performances, saying “the music was designed for people to move, and it is a bit difficult after awhile to have people sitting like they are watching TV. That’s why I like to play outdoor festivals – because people will just dance”. Come get your dance on as TAJ MAHAL & THE PHANTOM BLUES BAND takes the stage on Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 9:00 pm.
